The interpreter sits beside the listener throughout the meeting and renders the speaker's content continuously, in the same simultaneous mode as a conference booth would use, but at conversational volume and only for the few people who need it.

Whispered Interpreting: Common Questions
One or two listeners. Beyond that, the interpreter has to raise their voice past the whisper register and starts disturbing the meeting. For three or more listeners we recommend a portable bidule kit (transmitter and receivers) so the interpreter can continue quietly while the listeners hear cleanly through earpieces.
Whispered is real-time (simultaneous mode, just unaided by a booth). Consecutive waits for the speaker to pause and then renders the passage. Whispered keeps the meeting moving at native pace; consecutive doubles the meeting time but trades that for note-based precision.
Whispered is often used to translate the proceedings for a single non-English-speaking party in court, so they can follow live without disturbing the bench. For witness examination and formal testimony, consecutive is the format the court expects.
