USCIS Certified Translations That Meet Every Requirement

USCIS requires that foreign-language documents be translated by a competent translator who certifies accuracy in writing. Our certified translations are accepted by USCIS, embassies, and immigration courts across the United States.

What USCIS Requires

Certified Translations for Every Immigration Filing

When you submit foreign-language documents to USCIS, the agency requires a complete English translation accompanied by a signed Certificate of Accuracy. This certificate confirms that the translator is competent in both the source and target languages and that the translation is accurate and complete. The applicant cannot translate their own documents, and uncertified translations are rejected outright.

BeTranslated prepares USCIS-compliant certified translations for birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, academic diplomas, police clearance letters, court records, and any other foreign-language document your case officer requests. Every translation includes a Certificate of Accuracy on company letterhead, signed by the responsible translator.

Who Needs This

Typical Use Cases

Green Card Applicants

Family-based and employment-based green card petitions require certified translations of birth certificates, marriage certificates, and foreign civil records.

Naturalization Applicants

N-400 citizenship applications often require certified translations of foreign passports, diplomas, and prior legal name-change documents.

Asylum Seekers

Evidence submitted with I-589 asylum applications, including police reports, court records, and country condition documents, must be translated and certified.

Student Visa Applicants

F-1 and J-1 visa applicants presenting foreign academic transcripts or diplomas for US university admission require certified translations.

02

Translation and Review

A specialist translator working into English prepares a complete translation. A second linguist reviews for accuracy before the file is signed off.

Common Questions

USCIS Certified Translations: Frequently Asked Questions

USCIS requires a full English translation of any foreign-language document together with a written certification from the translator. The certification must state that the translator is competent in both languages and that the translation is accurate and complete to the best of their knowledge. BeTranslated provides this in a signed Certificate of Accuracy included with every translation.

Standard turnaround for a single document such as a birth certificate is 24 to 48 hours. Multi-page documents or packages containing several records typically take 2 to 3 business days. Expedited same-day service is available for an additional fee on most document types.

These are two separate things. An apostille is an authentication stamp placed on the original document by the issuing country's government, confirming the document is genuine. A certified translation is an English translation with a competency certificate. USCIS generally requires certified translations but does not require an apostille for immigration filings. Your attorney or case officer will confirm if apostille authentication is also needed.
